Haugabreen glacier is getting smaller

The results from Norwegian Glacier Museum 's annual front position measurements showed that Haugabreen glacier in Jølster retreated by 21 meters this year.

The front has been measured here since 2013, when the museum started a new series of measurements. In 10 years, the glacier has retreated 135 meters in total. The front position measurements are made in October or November each year (during the transition from summer to winter). Haugabreen glacier is a southern arm of Myklebustbreen glacier, where the iconic Snønipa mountain rises like a nunatak. The front of the glacier is approximately 880 meters above sea level.

By comparing the images, it is clear to see the changes in the size of the glacier from 2013 to 2023.
