Visit Sognefjord

Fjærland is located in Fjærlandsfjorden, an arm of the fjord that flows into the mighty Sognefjord near Balestrand. The Sognefjord region gets most of its visitors during the summer season, but spring and autumn are also becoming more popular. The Sognefjord is just as good - all year round!

In winter, the mountain areas around Fjærland are inviting for skiing trips of all kinds, where summit tours and "the best snow in the world" in particular attract locals and visitors. In February, the popular Mountain Sports Festival is held in Sogndal, and the ski centers in Sogndal and Luster are not far away.

Another, in our opinion, local treasure is without a doubt the mighty Jostedalsbreen glacier - the largest glacier on the European mainland and protected as a national park. Norwegian Glacier Museum is an authorized Visitor Center for Jostedalsbreen National Park.

See Visit Sognefjord to explore what you can do in the area around Fjærland.

Along the highway between Sogndal and Skei , you will find, among other things, knowledge about nature and the landscape at the so-called "Georasteplassar".

  • At Vatnasete in Sogndalsdalen, there is a paved path that symbolizes an axis of time. It explains the natural and cultural history of the valley.

  • At Berge in Fjærland, you'll find interesting information about geology and how the fjord was formed.

  • At Bøyabreen, the focus is on the glacier's history.

  • In Lundebotn in Jølster, you can learn about the dramatic landscape of the Kjøsnesfjord.

The Sognefjord has been labeled as a sustainable destination. Read more about Sustainable Destination on Visit Norway's website. Norwegian Glacier Museum is one of many sustainability-certified members of Visit Sognefjord, and contributes to making the Sognefjord as sustainable as possible by being a certified Eco-Lighthouse.
